~Olde Glory, Pillow Tucks, & Thrift Shop Finds~

Well…I wasn’t planning on going out today, but my sister called me and it changed my plans for the day.  I wondered why she was calling me so early today…I picked up the phone and had no sooner said “hello”, when I heard her say “Our bathtub just fell through the floor!”

To make a long story short…my sister and her husband are renting a small older bungalow while they are house hunter for a home to purchase. It turns out that there has been a water leak around the bathtub that no one knew about and it finally rotted out the floor underneath it. Luckily my sister was able to get out as soon as it started to fall…she said tub had gone down about an inch as she was jumping out of it, but it went down about 16 inches total. Needless to say, she needed to come use own bathroom. Her hubby stayed at home to wait for the landlord to come to see what needed to be done to get this mess fixed. So after she got cleaned up here, we decided to go to JoAnn Fabrics, the GW, and out to lunch…and let the guys deal with their bathroom mess.

img_2883 I picked up this fabric at JoAnn Fabrics. There are 4 flags in the panel…not sure yet what I’m going to make with them, but I just loved the look of this fabric. Maybe I’ll make some pillows for me and some for gifts.

I usually go to the GW on Friday afternoons or evenings as I found that those times are really good…because they are stocking the shelves full getting ready for the weekend. Well, guess what… Monday late morning is another good time to go because they are restocking the shelves from the weekend. I just love what I found there today!!

img_2882 I got this shelf box for $1.99…not sure yet if I going to paint & distress it or just rubbed some gel strain on it to bring the wood out a bit.

img_2880 And my favorite find today for $1.89…an old copper bed warmer. Not sure if this is going to hang by the fireplace or in the bedroom.

For my 1 year blogiversary and my 100th post…I gave away 2 sets of pillow tucks. One of the winners was Cheryl from Ohio, who does not have a blog…and I had ask her if she would send me a picture that I could share here on my blog so that we could see where she put them…

pillow-tucks-001 …and I just love how she displayed them!! I also love how her old sewing drawer is painted!! Not to mention…that I love everything we get a little peak of in this picture!!  I guess by now that Cheryl knows I love it all!!  Thank you, my new found friend, for sharing this with all of us.

Until next time….    blessings, Cindy

I am absolutely loving your GW finds…I find that I am a little jealous because I would have loved to have found those! LOL LOL
I have been not having too much luck lately….it seems like it is getting to be the same old stuff.
But I so love seeing what everyone else is getting!
Cheryl did an amazing job displaying her winnings from you! I wish she had a blog so that she could share her decorating talent with us…Maybe you could persuade her!

What a bummer about your sister’s tub, I am glad no one got hurt!

Thank you for such kind words about our old house! It’s sure filled with a bunch of old junk, but I guess I love old junk!! (As long as it’s primitive.) Can’t wait to see what you do with your craft room! I really like your materials and paint color. I’m in the process of moving my craft room from the den to the upstairs sitting room, so I’m looking for ideas! You sure did get some goodies at the thift stores! I love those old wooden boxes and drawers – what a deal. I’ll be looking forward to more pics soon, Dawn

Hi Cindy!….I love how your giveaway winner displayed her pillows, love that box she’s got them in!….I wanted to let you know that I received mine in the mail yesterday and I love them, they are soooo cute!….I have them set aside to display the next time I redo everything for summer next month….they’ll be a fun addition!

  • Debbie Vierkant

Wow, what a mess your sister has on her hands, YICKS! We are dealing with a similar thing at my parents summer place right now, not fun! At least she is renting and the expenses will fall on the landlord to fix it. Our weather here sounds similar to yours there it’s been windy and chilly here the last few days but supposed to be summery by the end of the week. I painted my toenails yesterday morning in anticipation for flip flops. Take care!

Makes me glad I only take showers…LOL

I guess any time is a good time to go “thrifting”! Great bed warmer. Love the way Cheryl displayed the pillows. I’ll have to keep an eye out for old drawers like that. I think I’ve seen them somewhere but it didn’t occur to me to use them as display…DUH!!!

  • Karen

I love how Cheryl displayed your pillow tucks….I bet you are getting anxious to see what I do with mine….ME TOO! LOL
When my house gets back in order that’s one of the first things I’m going to display!
    COOL BEDWARMER.

Love the GW finds………..especially that bed warmer.
Thank you so much for sharing the picture of how I displayed my pillow tucks in this blog. And, thanks to all the “prim gals” that responded with kind words about it!
Maybe I will get a blog of my own started one of these days……….just need to try and see how to create it!
    Blessings,
    Cheryl
