~Old Wooden Drawers & Pin-Keeps~
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We sure did…as it feels more like Fall then Summer around here. Did I ever mention that Fall is my favorite time of the year? So….I’m loving this weather!! Guess I had better enjoyed it before the dog days of summer get here in August.
Speaking of doggies… this was my helper as I was taking some pictures and this is what Chloe was saying to me…”Oh, mommy would you just put that camera down and play with me!!” LOL… But playtime had to wait so that I could show you all what I’ve been doing here at Cynthia lee Designs.
Last week, I spent some time is my sewing/craft room working on some goodies that are gifts. One I can share with you as she has gotten her goodies, but the other I can’t show you just yet…cause I’m not finished working on them and the receiver of those goodies reads my blog. No early peeking for her! LOL…
I did a giveaway a few posts back…on guessing what my exciting news was. (Which was being a grandma again this coming February, just in case anyone missed that post.) And Debbie, from “Deb’s Country Crafts” was the winner and this is what I made for her.
She decorates with more bright colors and with a folk-art whimsy feel rather than primitive…so I wanted to make her some goodies that would fit right into her home. I love how the 2 appliqued dish towels turned out….very bright and summery. Oops…I made her a purse pin out of an old key that had a pink checked ribbon flower with a charm that said ”friends” and I forgot to put it in the picture. The mouse is actually from a pin-keep pattern out of the book “Pretty Little Pincushions”, but I decided to put it a vintage green teacup that is from 1959. Also made her a pin-keep from a very tiny paper mache box with a tin lid, that I attached the polk-a-dot cushion to and place a needle threader & thimble inside.
And I liked her’s so much that I just had to make myself one for my sewing/craft room!!
Here is another pin-keep that I have, but this one is for my jewelry pins. My friend Linda made this and I love it!! It sits on the edge of my dresser and has 2 vintage pins in it and a vintage bracelet laying in the base piece on top of a doily. The owl necklace was made by my other friend Linda (from Tenn.)…and the owl is actually machine embroidered. And yes, I do wear it….looks great with a white t-shirt and jeans! I just love the vintage feel of it!!
As you all know, I love to go thriftin’ and junkin”, but this is how it has been lately…Last weekend was our neighbor garage sales, where the last 2 years I found lots of goodies. Well…not this year!! I got to most of them before the big storms rolled in, but didn’t find a thing! This past Thursday I went to a huge TS that in an old rolling skating rink…and didn’t find a thing!! On Friday, DH and I went out to dinner…so we stopped by our local GW and I didn’t find a thing!!!
But remember these old drawers…I got them from a local thrift/antique store sometime back in the Spring to put into my new sewing/craft room. He had about 8 to 10 of them, but I had only picked up 2 of them at that time because I was not sure where I was going to put them. Well, I think my thriftin’ luck has finally changed…I went back there yesterday and was so happy to find that he still had 6 drawers left. I only needed 4 of them and I used a coupon that he had emailed out… so my total was only $23.00 for all 4 of them!!
And this is their new home…on the top shelf of my cedar cupboard to hold some of my sewing and crafting supplies…6 of them fit perfectly!! And I just love them there!!
That’s all for now…I’ll be back in a few days as Josie is coming to stay with me. Until next time….prim blessings, Cindy

What a great idea with the drawers – love it! It hasn’t been very “summery” here either, just a warm day here and there. Abbey would go swimming in any kind of weather! I already sold that crock on my blog! Couldn’t believe it! Anyway, off to the shop. Talk to you soon, Dawn
