~Old Lace, Vintage Jewels, and Sparkly Beads~

A lot of the sub-divisions around our town do neighborhood garage sales…and I had a chance to go to some this past weekend. I’ve been looking for certain things that I can use in my crafts that I’m making for my upcoming shows. You most likely have guessed by my post title that I’m searching for old lace & trims and vintage jewelry. There is one local thrift shop that I have found a few pieces, but I usually have better luck at the garage sales.  Here is what I found…

~old lace~

These were .25 cents each, so I couldn’t pass these doilies up.

~more old lace~

These were $1.00 each. I love the oval one and I think that I’m going to keep it to use in my home.

~vintage jewelry~

As you can see, I picked these two pairs of vintage earrings up for .25 cents each. Not really sure yet if I will add these to the pins that I make or put them on to other crafts that I’m making. I’ll share more in the months to come as I will be starting to work on my creations for shows here soon…but that won’t be until after the middle of July, because I’m getting ready for our neighborhood garage sale which is in two weeks.

I almost done working on the wedding dress for my friend’s daughter. I still have some more beads that are loose that I need to tack down…but here is the peek that I promised.

Sorry, I can’t show the whole dress before the wedding…but it is beautiful. This is just one small area that has beads, pearls, and rhinestones…I hope to be done working on it by the end of this week.

My sister emailed me a picture of her birthday gift that I got her at the thrift shop. For those of you that might be new to my blog…my sister and her hubby purchased their first home last fall and the main part of their home was built in 1861. She has decided to decorate that part of her home in primitive decor…so she was thrilled to find this at the thrift shop when we went out shopping the other day.

The lamp is solid rod iron and very heavy…the shade is a tiny cream and green checked. She made her muslin curtains and those are the original 1861 hardwood floors that you see in the photo. She is doing her kitchen in vintage decor and their bedroom and her craft room in country cottage decor. I’ll share more pictures of their home as they work on restoring it.

Hope everyone has a great week. It has cooled down here and the temps for the week will be in the low to mid 70′s. Until next time…..       blessing, Cindy

~Some Things Pretty And White~

My sister and I went out shopping together on Thursday. The shopping trip was my treat for her to pick out a birthday gift and she decided that we should go to the thrift shops. Not only did she find a birthday gift…but I found a few things for myself that were pretty and white.

I couldn’t believe the price of this pretty quilted table runner at the GW…..  …only .99 cents!!!

After finding this treasure, we headed over to the dishware isle and look at this pretty piece that I spotted.  A huge white stoneware platter with Hydrangeas…..

…price $3.49 and the back says Martha Stewart Living Collection. And look what I found that matches it……

…price $2.49. As I was picking this pitcher up off the shelf…I already knew what I was going to do with these two pieces.

How pretty they are together!!  I couldn’t wait to get home and put these on my dining room table…and my little helper couldn’t wait until we got started either.

Well, Miss Chloe…don’t you just love what mommy did with the things she found that were pretty and white?

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I will be working on some alterations to a friend’s  daughter’s wedding dress and sewing back on some loose beads…also will be making her veil next week. I was so hoping to be done by now, but I was pushing the needle through the dress and poked it underneath my thumbnail. Ouch!!! Thank goodness I didn’t bleed all over the dress. My thumb was so sore that I had to take a break from working on it for a few days. I’ll give you a peek of the wedding dress soon and also share my sister’s birthday gift after she emails me a picture of it.

Until next time……        blessings, Cindy

~Spur Of The Moment Trip~

On Saturday evening we took a spur of the moment trip…..

I have been looking for a while now for a cabinet for the living room. One that we could put some baskets in to hide our shoes and such out of sight from a little Yorkie that keeps taking things…not to chew them up, but for a game of “Chase Me”!!

Well….on Saturday, I spent some time looking on-line at different stores that I love. I looked at Pottery Barn and then went to IKEA’s site…and found what I was looking for. I was so excited to see that they had what I wanted and told my hubby. He said “Want to take a trip and go pick it up?” Ahhh…Yes!!! While there, I looked for the baskets to put in the cubby areas of the cabinet…but didn’t really find any that I liked.

So the cabinet looked like this when we got it home…

sort of plain and unfinished looking!! I spent Sunday afternoon going to every local store that I could think of that carried baskets…and came home without any. There was one other store that I wanted to go to, but they are closed on Sundays…so first thing on Monday morning I headed there.

And look at what I found…

burlap baskets…but there was only three of them and I needed four baskets. The store actually called two of their other stores in nearby towns to see if they had any…but they said that they did not have any at all. Well…I went ahead and purchased these three as I really loved them and the price was wonderful at $5.99 per basket. So, I had to hope that I could find one more. Well…..after Mr D. got home, we decided to take another spur of the moment trip to these two stores to check for ourselves to see if they had any of these baskets. At our stop by the first store…they did not have any of them at all. However, at the other store…we found six baskets of different sizes in this print and one of them was the size I needed!! And it was on clearance for $2.00!!! I was so happy that we went to check.

My cabinet is now complete…

and I don’t have to chase little Miss Chloe to get my shoes back. Still need to do some tweaking on the cabinet top…not sure this is what I want on it. I think it needs a crochet lace doily or two for some of that farmhouse romance feel. I share more pics after I’m done tweaking it.

Until next time…….      blessings, Cindy
