~Crocheted Flowers~

This month sure has gone by slowly for me…since I spent most of the time on the sofa taking it easy. After a few weeks, it was really getting to me that I couldn’t go in my sewing/craft room and create. I was trying to figure out what I could work on while still taking it easy…and I realized that I could crochet. So I got my yarn out and my booklet on “Fashion Flowers to Crochet” and got to work on these little crocheted treasures.

I used up some left over pieces of yarn to make these…then got out my button stash and sewed one in the center of each flower.

These are so quick and easy to make that before I knew it…I had myself a bunch of blooming flowers and that sure did brighten my day. It felt so good to be creating again!! I still need to sew the pin-backs on them. These crocheted flowers look great pinned on a jacket or a hat…and on your purse.

I’ve kept the flowers that I just made more simple than the ones that I made a few years ago for my craft shows…these were a big hit.

Hmmmm….maybe I should make some fancier ones this year too. Which do you like better?

I have a doctor’s appointment this afternoon to see how my back and right  hip are doing. I feel that I have gotten a lot better here in the last few days…so, I’m hoping for good news today.

Until next time…..       blessings, Cindy

~Kitchen Inspiration and An Award~

For those of you that have been following my blog for sometime now…know that we were redoing our kitchen. Well…I hate to admit it, but it never got finished. I did get  most of the upper cabinets painted white, but not the trim that goes above the cabinets. This is an older picture…I don’t have the welcome blocks on the range hood anymore…sold them in the garage sell this past summer.

Mr D. and I also got all of the back splash put up a long time ago, but we haven’t painted the lower cabinets yet. This is an older picture too…but there will be new ones soon.

Why didn’t we finish the kitchen? Because I couldn’t make up my mind if I wanted all the cabinets painted white…or did I want the lower ones a different color. At the time…I was thinking about painting them either red or black. Started painting one of them red and decided that was a no go…and then worried about the black being too dark as the kitchen is not very big.

Well…..   With all this time hanging out on the sofa while my back has been out of whack…I’ve done a lot of looking through my large stash of magazines and look at what I found in one of my Country Sampler magazines. A kitchen with white cabinets, the back splash the same as mine, and the same color of wood flooring.

One of the reasons that I was thinking about painting the lower cabinets black is because my living room, dining room, and kitchen are all fairly open to each other. I have a huge black wall unit and  black console table in the living room and a black china cupboard in the dining room…and I just feel like there needs to be some black in the kitchen area too. After finding this photo…I now know how to bring  the black touches into the kitchen. We are going to paint the upper trim black and get a black counter top and sink. We hope to get back to the kitchen project when the weather warms up, so that we can paint the lower doors and trim out in the garage.  Can’t wait to finally get it done.

Also wanted to share with you that Pea over at “Whimsical Endeavors” awarded me the Stylish Blogger Award.

By accepting this award I’m to tell you eight things about myself that you might not know. So here goes….

1) I’m married to my high school sweetheart.

2) I have 2 daughter that are 6 years apart in age, but are asked a lot if they are twins.

3) We moved 7 times in the first 6 years of being married. Happy to say that we have only moved 2 other time since then.

4) I used to have my own country shop in a quaint little town known for its antique shops.

5) I volunteered to teach 3rd grade art class one year when our school levy failed, so that the kids could still have that class. I will never forget how excited the kids were to see what they would be making each week.  And the hugs were the greatest blessings from teaching that year!!

6) I have been doing crafts shows for 27 years. Only doing 2 or 3 shows a year now, but used to do 10 to 15 a year. Yeap…it’s in my blood!!

7) One of my first jobs was selling make-up and I often did make-up for brides and her bridemaids. I loved helping them feel beautiful on their wedding day.

8) I’m still close to my best friend from when I was young…we became friends when we were 10 years old. Her husband’s job has moved them around to different states over the years…and I have gotten to visit her in every state that she has lived in but one.

Now you all know a little more about me. I’m suppose to past this on to 8 others…but I’m terrible at that because I can’t pick just eight. You all are stylish bloggers and deserve this award!!

Update on my back…the lumbars in my lower back are finally holding, but my right hip is still going out. The doctor is giving me another week on that and we’ll see where I go from there. I am happy to say that today my hip is still in place and I’m not in as much pain today either….so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it stays in place all week.  Until next time…..     blessings, Cindy

~Taking Things Slowly~

Yes…I’m taking things slowly. I am improving, but I’m still having some troubles with my back. When I first went to the chiropractor…I had four places in my back that was out and now I only have one. My 3rd lumbar vertebrae was the worse, but as of last Wednesday…it was staying in place, but my 4th lumbar was out. I’m sure something is still out as my hip has been bothering. I see the doctor today…so we’ll see what he has to say. Since my last visit, I was allowed to slowly start doing some things…like cooking and washing dishes, but no running the sweeper or picking anything heavy up. The doctor is wanting to see if things will stay in place once I go back to my normal routine.

Since I was allowed to do a few things…I went with Mr D. to pick up his medicine at the drug store at our local mall. There just happens to be a country shop directly across from the drug store…so we went over there while they filled his prescription. It felt good to get out of the house for a bit, but I have a admit that I was ready to go back home after that…just that little bit of walking got to my back and my right hip. However…while looking around the little shop, I found this in the clearance area.

~A glass display jar…..

It’s not showing up very well in the photo, but this is what I put in it…the pears and cinnamon sticks that were in this small basket.

I really like how they look in the bottle…and I’m thrilled that I won’t have to dust off the pears any more.

It is sitting on the top of the old jeweler’s cupboard between our living room and dining room area. I’m still trying to figure out how to hide the white cord (under the chair) that is to the baby monitor. Any suggestions?

I’m sure there will be more changes to this as I go along with changing my decorating style…but this has to do while my back is trying to heal. Can’t wait until I’m all better…and can start painting and sewing again. Yes…when that time does come…I will be taking it slowly…little bits at a time.

Until next time…..     blessings, Cindy
