~My Dining Room~

I was sitting at the dining room table painting on a vintage enamel coffee pot…it’s a gift for a friend. Anyways…as I was sitting there, I thought that I should share my dining room with all of you. It has a cottage farmhouse feel to it.

I recently put my firkin/pantry buckets back out in the room…had to put them up high out of reach from my grandson when he was little. For some reason, Peyton was fascinated with them and I was worried that he would drop and maybe break one…so up high on the book shelves in the living room they went for almost 2 years.

They are sitting on a little old chair that I found at a yard sale many years ago…right next to the china cupboard, which right now holds a lot of my white pitcher collection until my hubby gets the shelf back up in the kitchen.

On the other side of the quilt is the old ironing board…were I put my new apron that was a gift from a relative in Tennessee.

A small old ladder holds some dish towels…plus there is an old glass washboard that sits in a wood basket at the bottom of the ironing board.

On the opposite wall…that opens into the kitchen has this gathering of a rolling-pin shelf and a couple of framed prints on the left side.

On the right side of the opening to the kitchen is this peg rack that holds some of my handmade basket collection. The sun was shining in through the glass sliding doors and made the wall look pink, but it is really a soft beige/white color.

Also hanging up in the corner of the opening to the kitchen is an old farm milk scale.

Well…that is my dining room and I hope that you enjoyed seeing it.

Remember the vintage enamel coffee pot that I was painting on for a friend…here is a peek at what I painted on it. She has apples in her kitchen and she loves gingerbread men…so I’m hoping that she likes it.

~What’s a Girl to do…~

What’s a girl to do when she finds out that she has Osteoporosis?… She takes up walking everyday and has been having fun finding some great places to walk.

We live about 15 minutes or so from a beautiful reservoir…

My hubby and I have walked here a couple of times now. We started out by going up some stairs. No, make that…going up a lot of stairs to the top of the dam. It was so pretty to look out over the water or to look down over the edge at the rocks to the water’s edge…

And I realized when I looked again at the water’s edge…that this Blue Heron was down there. I think he might have been looking for a fish to catch for his supper.

After walking across the dam…we headed to the walking trails down below in the park.

I zoomed in on this photo so that you could see the covered bridge that was off in the distance.

It sure is a beautiful place to go walking at.

~Some Farmhouse Style Changes~

I’ve been puttering around the house and changing some things to get that farmhouse style that I love. This is the little side table that I had upstairs at the end of the hallway and it just wasn’t saying farmhouse to me.

So for the last several months, I’ve been looking for a chest of drawers with great farmhouse style and I finally found what I looking for at HomeGoods. I love the red and blue drawers with the white and the dark top.

I also got around to painting this gold star on the cow bell.

I painted it white and I’m liking it much better now.

I just realized as I was looking at these photos…that I’ve been adding more red and aqua with my whites.

Those colors are in the quilt that is hanging in my dining room too.

Oh yes… I’m loving these colors in my farmhouse decor.

~Trip to Tennessee and the ER~

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend…we left last Friday to head for the hills of Tennessee for 5 days.

Had a great time visiting with family and playing out in the mountains.

We went way out into the hills to some of our old family cemeteries…

and the scenery was breath-taking.

Now for the not so fun part of the trip…I spend part of one day in the ER on Sunday afternoon. We had been out to a church where one of the family cemeteries are. We had put flowers on some of the graves and after church service, there was a pot luck lunch. We then headed back to my husband’s aunt home to visit with all the family that had come up from Georgia. Just as I stood up from getting out of the car…the left side of my face got a tingling numb feeling and it went down my left arm and left leg. Luckily for me, my son-in-law was with us and he is a paramedic…he checked me over and everything check out fine. He suggested that I go to the ER to get checked out from them…so off we went and spent several hours there. They did all kinds of test and everything came back normal. Which is a good thing, but it still worries me not knowing what caused it. I did find out from my dad that he had this same thing happen to him many years ago and it never happened again…so I hoping it never happens to me again either.

On a happier note…our daughter is searching our family’s roots and on our last day there, we got to meet some relatives that him and my hubby had the same great, great, great, great-grandfather. It turns out that Terry is a woodworker and so is my husband. His wife, Roberta, loves to craft and sew…and so do I. We all had a wonderful visit with them.

She surprised my daughter, granddaughter, and me with aprons that she made for us. I hung mine from my old ironing board in the dining room. I just love it and will think of her every time I see it hanging there and when I wear it while baking cookies and cakes with my granddaughter.

Looking like we might be having some bad storms heading our way for this evening. Hope everyone stays safe if you are in the places that are having bad weather today.

~Country White Birds~

Today while I was trying to figure out what to share for Country Whites Weekend…I heard the birds singing and splashing in the bird bath after all the thunderstorms and rain that come down overnight.

As I was sitting here listening to the birds…

I realized that they were giving me the answer on what to share.

All my feathered friends that I have sitting around my nest…and they just all happen to be white.

Some are made of fabric…

and a few are made of wood…

and some are made of carved wood…

and some are carved wood with rusty wings.

There are even some made of mercury glass that are displayed with old wood spools that are wrapped with vintage white lace…

And then there is that special one…my very first feathered friend to grace my nest 20 years ago…

I came home one day from work and saw this goose sitting on our dining room table. I had been eyeing him at one of my favorite shops and my hubby surprised me with it for my birthday…and that was the start of my love for my white feathered friends!

~It’s Been One of Those Weeks~

Well…actually it’s been one of those weeks and a half.

There has been a lot going on….

* My sister and I took my mom out to lunch and shopping for her birthday on May 2nd. The little plaque says…”Mother is another word for Love”…it was a gift from my oldest daughter to me many years ago.

* Made my granddaughter’s birthday cake on May 3th….Josie helped me make this yummy creation. I still can’t believe that she is now 13 years old. It seems like yesterday that I was holding her as a new born baby.

* Checked out a craft show on May 4th. that I was interested in maybe doing this coming Fall, but after checking it out…I won’t be doing it. We stopped for lunch on our way home and I just loved the flag that was painted on the side of this old building.

* Had a doctor’s appointment on May 6th…just a check up on my back.

* Had another doctor’s appointment on May 8th… for my yearly check up.

* Hubby and I went to dinner at my parent’s on May 10th to celebrate Mother’s Day with my mom.

* My hubby’s birthday was on the May 11th…we checked out a few antique/thrift shops, then headed over to watch our granddaughter run at her track meet. Then later in the day, I got a text from Josie asking us to go out to have pizza with them. We had such a great day with our kids and grandkids.

* Then on Sunday we went to visit my in-laws for Mother’s Day…May 12th.

* Yesterday morning, I rushed our little 6 lb. Yorkie to the vet on May 13…she ate a 12 x 7 piece of fabric. The little stinker got my hubby’s boxers out of the clothes hamper. We thought she was going to have surgery and about 5 minutes before the vet was going to knock her out…Zoey was able to throw up most of it and has been passing a few little pieces today on her own. Just not sure if all the pieces of fabric are out of her yet, but she is does seem to feel better.

I’m hoping that this next week or so is much calmer and less busy, but I sure did enjoy all the time that we got to spend with family. Be back in a few days to share what my hubby got me for Mother’s Day.

~Old Toy Sewing Machine~

On Saturday, my hubby and I headed out for a 2 hour drive to go check out a craft show that I was interested in checking out to maybe do their Fall show. However…after walking around the show, I decided that it was not the kind of show that I was looking to do. I have another show that I want to check out at the beginning of June…it is closing to home. Well…actually real close to home…it is only 15 minutes from where I live. I’ve never been able to go to their Fall show, because it was the same weekend that I did my big Fall show, which I’m not going back to after doing it for 23 years. It sure would be nice to a show that is so close to home. Keep you posted on what I find out.

Anyways…on our way back home, we stopped at a little antique shop and I found this little toy sewing machine.

I’ve wanted one to display in my sewing room for years now, but they are very pricey. Most that I’ve seen have been in the price range of $105 to $295 or higher…some have been as high as $500. I can’t tell you how shocked and happy I was when I saw that this cute little machine was only $25.00 and it is in really good condition. It now has a new home…sitting on the shelf above my embroidery machine.

~White Wood Basket~

Just had to share this white wood basket that my sister gave me for my birthday. I love it…but have been trying to figure out where I want to put it and right now, it is in the dining room with the old ironing board, wash board, and towel rack.

Can’t decide if I like it there or not…so I added an old game board with it to see if I liked it any better.

What do you think?…

It’s growing on me, but you never know…I just might try it somewhere else.

~Playing With The White Paint Again~

Yep…I’ve been playing with the white paint again. It all started after I went to the Gathered Treasures Show a couple of weeks ago. I found this wonderful piece that was on an old slat of a barrel and just knew that I wanted to display it on this old doorknob plaque.

However…it wasn’t giving me the exact farmhouse feel that I was looking for, so I got out the white paint and went to work. I really like how it turned out much better after painting the wood plaque white.

This pretty piece is hanging on a very narrow piece of wall that is by the coat closet in our living room. And the bookcase is one of two that are on either side of the big screen TV nook area.

I had a few more things that I was planning on painting white, but had to put it on hold…

Our sweet little Zoey broke off part of her tooth while chewing on a Nylabone and the root was exposed, so she had her little tooth pulled a couple of days ago and she has been spending a lot of time on my lap. She is starting to feel more like her little self…but has 3 more days of medicine and eating soft food.

~Little Snippets on A Country White Weekend~

I’m joining Dru from “The Country Farm Home” and Cindy from “Olde Time Farmhouse” for “Country Whites Weekend”.

Thought I would share some snippets of Country Whites from around my “Home Sweet Home”.

This very large church birdhouse is one of my favorite pieces…I’ve had this piece for about 20 years or so. Just love its chippy white paint!!

Next to the birdhouse is a basket with some old sewing items and I just love the pop of white color from the old spool of crochet thread. Looking at this photo…I see the old cow bell with the star on it and I’m thinking that as soon as I’m done with this post…that star is getting painted white.

On top of the basket is a white wood star, a quilted star with some white on it and a little white bird.

On the same wall…next to the printer’s box is this small shelf-box…it is a dark wood with a creamy white wash on it, but it’s not showing up very well in my photo. I put some pillow tucks with a white bird in there for Springtime.

I have one more thing to share with you…my little “Junk” piece that I got at the “Gathered Treasures” show. It has little snippet pieces of white fabric and a tiny white flower on it with a piece of jewelry chain. This little just piece spoke to me…as you know, I love to go out hunting for some good junk to decorate my home with and I use pieces of old junk jewelry in my vintage style necklaces that I make.
