~Under The Weather and Retirement~

Hi everyone…it’s me, Chloe….

Chloe (9)

I’m blogging for my mommy today…she is under the weather with a sinus infection and she keeps saying something about feeling like her head is going to explode!!  Zoey and I have been trying to make her feel better…we’ve been spending the days with her in bed or in the recliner.

Our daddy is retiring from his job after over 33 years in public health service and will be starting a new job soon in the private sector. Today…they gave him a retirement party at work and one of the ladies that works there made this awesome cake. It looks just like the computer area in his office…he has been their IT guy for that last 13 years.

Mommy is about done with her big embroidery job…but her getting sick put her a little behind. She told us that there won’t be any sleeping all day in the recliner tomorrow, because she has a date with her embroidery machine.

Hmmm…wonder if Zoey and I can change her mind. We’ve really enjoyed our time in the recliner with her!!

Until next time…….         puppy kisses, Chloe and Zoey

~Some Changes In The Kitchen~

Been playing in my new kitchen and made a few changes. Here is what the buffet area looked like when I first shared my kitchen with you…

Here it is now… I found the old crock with my rolling-pin collection in it down in the basement the other day. So I tucked it in the corner and moved the blue mason jars. Can’t decide which way I like it better.

Here is the before picture of where I had my canisters…

Well…those red canister just weren’t saying farmhouse to me. One day, while shopping with my daughter at Target…I found these glass jar canisters and they definitely say farmhouse style. Plus it gave me more white in there that I was really wanting. Great price too…$5.00 each for the large canisters and $4.00 for the smaller size.

This next photo is of the vintage style chalkboard that my daughter gave me for my new kitchen. I love it…has a place for in mail and out going mail. We hung it with chain from the ceiling, because we didn’t want to screw it into the side of the cabinet. I think it looks great hanging here in the kitchen. Hmmm…..guess I should write a message on it.

There are still a few things we need to do  here in the kitchen. I need to get the curtains shorten and hung up. We purchased the wood for the shelves that go up near the ceiling to hold my white pitcher collection and old basket collection…now we just need to find the time to get it up.

If you find that I’m not around as much over the next week or so…it is because I have a date with my embroidery machine. I have a big job to do for our EMS/Fire Department…55 shirts and jackets that need embroidery put on them.

Until next time…….        blessings, Cindy

~Country Whites in the Dining Room Hutch~

I’m joining “Country Whites Weekend” @ “Old Time Farmhouse” & “The Country Farm Home”.

Thought I would share the country whites that I have in my dining room hutch.

The white doilies and the white bowl with the pears on it was my grandmother’s…and the set of creamy white dishes on the bottom shelf was given to me by my mother-in-law at my bridal shower over 33 years ago. The little white pitchers were thrift store finds and the little angel I’ve had for years…purchased her from a fellow crafter at one of my shows.

On the top…I have a white lantern that was a thrift store find and a white wood bird that I purchased many years ago at a craft show. The wallpaper border is coming down soon…hubby is putting up a weathered wood. Yep…real weathered white washed wood!! I can’t wait…so ready for the border to go.

Hope you will go over to the “Country Whites Weekend” and join…

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

~A Party For A Little Pirate~

Ahoy Matey…it’s party day for a little pirate named Peyton!!

We had my grandson’s 3rd birthday party this past weeknd…he wanted a pirate theme and I think his mommy and I got it just the way he wanted it.

We had pirate cupcakes…

We had the pirate ship…(his grandpa and I got him this ship for Christmas)

And we had a treasure chest cake…

Here is a close-up of the front of the cake…

And a close-up of the back of the cake…

Now…I have to tell you that Captain Hook and the crocodile saved the day. The back of the treasure chest did not want to stay in place and by putting these two characters in the back of the cake…everything stayed in place. My daughter said that she got out of bed a couple of times in the middle of the night before the party to check on the cake. Thank goodness that everything stayed in place!!

Well…Pirate Peyton had a great time at his party along with his big sister, his mommy & daddy, all 4 of his grandparents, and his 4 great grandparents. He also has aunts & uncles, family friends and his little pirate friends there to celebrate his special day.

Everyone had a great time!! And the next day…there was one very happy but tired pirate!!

Until next time…….blessings from me to you, Cindy

~Been Busy Planning A Birthday Cake~

My sweet little grandson, Peyton, turned 3 years old on Tuesday and his birthday party is this coming Saturday. I’ve been very busy helping my daughter with all the plans for his party.

His party theme this year is Disney’s “Jake and the Pirates” and I’m making him a “Treasure Chest Cake”. I’ll share pictures of his cake after the party. Thought I would shared the cakes that I made him for his 1st and 2nd birthdays.

~1st birthday cake~

Monkey theme…the little monkey face cake was just for him to dig into and he wanted no part of it.

~2nd birthday cake~

“Toy Story” theme…it was his favorite movie last year and he watched it over and over and over again!!

I loved how his cake turned out last year…

…and the cupcakes too.

Well…I’ll be back on Sunday with pictures of his cake for this year.  I’ll be making it on this Friday afternoon. Still so hard to believe that he is 3 years old already…it sure went by quickly! It seems like yesterday that he was born during a snow storm!!

I just love this picture of him…he went sledding for the first time with his Daddy and he loved it!!

Until next time……you will find me in my kitchen…making a special cake for this grandma’s sweet little boy!!

Hugs from my farmhouse kitchen, Cindy

~Farmhouse Table Centerpieces~

My hubby built our farmhouse table back in 1998 and I love it just as much today as I did back then. This picture was taken this past Christmas…and my centerpiece was ornaments in the wood dough bowel with a swan.

After the holidays…I took the ornaments out of the bowl and the table centerpiece looks like this right now.

You all know that I’m loving the “plain and simple” style…but I’m thinking that something else needs to be in this bowel too.  It is just too plain!….Any ideas?

I have been thinking about changing the centerpiece to this…had the old coal bucket with flowers on my farmhouse table and the heart hanging from the quilt last year in February.

Then in the Spring…I brought out the Martha Stewart pitcher with platter that I picked up at a local thrift shop for $4.oo and put Hydrangeas from my flower garden in it.

And for the summer months…I put red, white, and blue rag-balls and fabric wrapped clothes pins with a lantern bag that had a battery candle light in it.

In the Fall…I had pumpkins and indian corn in my dough bowl, but forgot to take a picture of it. There was just too much going on with craft shows and working on the new kitchen.

I have figured out what to use for my table centerpiece for every time of the year except for winter…

and my swan looks so lonely. Help!!!…all suggestions welcome.

I’m linking up to Cindy’s “Old Time Party” over at the “Old Time Farmhouse”

Until next time…….         farmhouse blessings, Cindy
